I have been unable to use this scanner on a regular basis because the
Tray Icon disappears and that Icon initiates the Scan. The buttons on
the machine have failed to replace the buttons on the Icon and so I
cannot do any scanning.
I am running XP and have done many successful scans over the 2 years
or so that I have had the scanner.
How can I get the Icon back in the Tray? All the setup settings say
that it should be there. Also, why don't the buttons on the machine
work? When I click them the setup screen appears instead.

Have you tried re-installing the Visioneer software?
Assuming that the TWAIN interface for the Visioneer is installed.
Download and install the free Irfanview View and plug ins.
Irfanview has a TWAIN interface for scanners.

Start, Programs, Paperport, Onetouch configure, Preference tab, General
tab, Options, check the "Show scanner icon in windows taskbar" option.

Open the visioneer onetouch window, pick a tab corresponding to the
button you want to configure, select configuration choice to be anything
other than " Configure before scan".
